FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN MUSIC THERAPY AND MUSIC LESSONS OR ENTERTAINMENT?

Unlike listening to music for entertainment or having lessons, Music Therapy uses music as a platform for achieving therapeutic outcomes. Within a music therapy session, music becomes both the medium and the motivator for clients to work towards their goals and to feel a greater sense of comfort and safety when engaging in self-reflection and discussion.

Whilst learning to play an instrument may become part of a session, a wide range of musical interventions and instruments are explored in order to directly target specific NDIS goals.

HOW MANY MUSIC THERAPY SESSIONS WILL I NEED?

Individual sessions are generally conducted once a fortnight, to ensure participant's are not left feeling overwhelmed and overloaded by their schedule of supports and other therapies.
These fortnightly sessions continue on a regular basis for 24 weeks of the year and participant's are encouraged to continue taking music therapy sessions for as long as they are enjoying it and seeing it's benefits.

1 term trial sessions and term blocks are also available and recommended for those unsure whether Music Therapy is the right fit for them/ their child.
